Summer Studio Hothouse: Paintings & More Prints

If you’ve come to know me through my prints, you might not know that I am a painter from way back. I have a deep love of working digitally, and of making original prints on paper, and I can't imagine leaving that behind, but over the past year, I’ve had the increasing urge to paint.

I think painting, art-making in general, is like a sport. Once you’ve gained a level of ability, you never forget how to do it—once you can ride a bike, you don't forget how—but you might be a bit rusty and out of shape when you start back. (You might not want to jump right into racing or riding across the country.) For me, this is what it’s been like to start painting again. I’m super-rusty, but it feels very familiar and really good to once again be working those mental and physical muscles with brushes and paint. I’m excited about the work that’s to come.

So far I haven’t been sharing much of what I’ve been doing, but now I’m lucky enough to be at the lake for the summer, with a room to use as a studio, and I’m pushing ahead with a plan to build a body of painted work by the fall. I’ll post some more here as I go but the best way to keep up is to follow me on Instagram
