Gone Thinking

A Promise Made in April, Acrylic painting by Janet Taylor

A Promise Made in April, 2025, Acrylic and Mixed Media on Canvas, 48 x 36 x 1.5”

And just like that, it’s the middle of September.

After being pretty much off-grid over the summer, I’m re-energized, back in the studio, and looking forward to what’s next.

So much of my work is about space, but it’s been something that has actually been missing lately in my life and studio practice. I intentionally put things on pause in the last months, taking some much needed time to read, reflect, and explore some new thoughts in my sketchbooks. It’s been a time to fill the well and let new ideas take root.

I think I'm finally understanding how important it is to leave that consistent space in my life and work. Ideas need room to breathe, and time to evolve, iterate and expand. I’m working on ways to integrate this breathing room into my practice going forward.

Emerging from this quiet time, my studio is filled with new work at various stages, as I get some of these new ideas on canvas, and prepare for fall shows.

I’m also get ready to close up my Gravenhurst studio in October and move to a new much smaller, but much brighter spot in our new condo in Toronto. It’s hugely fun planning out how to make a tiny studio a productive and inspiring place to work. I can’t wait to share it with you when it’s ready.

SAVE THE DATE

In the meantime, save the date for the opening of Making Our Mark at Leslie Grove Gallery on October 9th from 6-8pm, and an Artist Talk on October 18th. I’ll once again be sharing a gallery with Miriam Traher and Lindsay Smail.

If you can’t wait for that, check out my currently available works here>>
